Doctor uses cancer research techniques to battle aging

Dr. Dana F. Flavin, executive director of the Foundation for Collaborative Medicine and Research (FCMR), is determined to find ways to stymie cancer cell growth. The group, which has members on three continents, looks for ways to find and develop new therapies based on natural treatments.
Just last week the Greenwich doctor was researching curcumin the active ingredient in the spice turmeric that has been used in Indian cooking for 2,500 years.
“It hits what they call the hedgehog pathway, which is a specific pathway for tumor stem cells,” she said.
